Did God Bring the Divide in America... and Why? by Wayne Sutton

"They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us." 1 John 2:19

Division can come from God - for division reveals the true heart of man.

When President Obama won the election for the 2nd time I was unsure of why, and felt that the leadership of Romney was going to lead the nation into a new direction. Now, let me begin this article by saying that I do believe and respect that ALL authority is from God and this is not an article to promote or bash any political parties or candidates.

After the election I was praying and asking the Lord about the election and why Obama won another term as our Leader. As soon as I spoke my prayer to the Lord, without a moment of hesitation, the Lord spoke to me concerning the upcoming season and why HE CHOSE Obama for our nation. He spoke...

"I could have used Romney, but I chose to use Obama to bring division."

His words were very firm and very clear - I asked immediately WHY LORD? Why bring division?

The Lord did not speak again, yet over the last almost 4 years I have seen his word become a reality as DIVISION is worse than ever in so many areas of our daily life.

Racial division, economic division, and truly church division over subjects such as LGBT and homosexual marriage has created a great split in our culture and faith.

Yet, would a loving and caring God cause division and why would it be so relevant for today?

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

The Lord has used our current leadership to bring division to the hearts of people - to divide the soul (our mind, will, emotion, actions and reactions) from the true spirit of God within us as believers, and his work is always perfect.

Yes, we have had years of rebuking and insulting our administration, and I also firmly disagree with some of the choices our President has made, yet we must remember that ALL authority that is in place is from the Lord and all authority has a designated purpose and destiny within that office.

"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Romans 13:1

Why Division?

Division of the soul and spirit REVEAL our hidden areas of sin, and areas that need to be transformed by Holy Spirit, in the glory to glory promise of the Lord.

Division takes us from being a fence-sitter and forces us to examine ourselves, to look into our own hearts for areas of hate, prejudice, and fear. Without a proper examination of our life, we live from a place of self-righteousness instead of Christ righteousness.

Division is not always a place of peace or harmony, yet it is often the birthing pains that are a sign of what is to come forth. We are called to transform into the image of Christ, and we are called to love our neighbor as ourselves. Without a clear distinction of where we are now... we cannot repent and turn to Holy Spirit for healing and the transformation we desire.

Should we cry out to the Lord for forgiveness and repent as a nation? Yes, of course.

Yet, repentance begins with you and I - the individual heart. God has brought a great divide through the leaders of this nation - and as we face our upcoming political elections and this season, we must remember the authority is from God and that authority needs our prayers.

"I could have used Romney, but I chose to use Obama to bring division."

These words not only spoke to my question, they also imparted within my life a faith, a trusting, a knowing that God is still the great I AM - and that His sovereign will is still above all that we understand or perceive.

Pray for our election - pray for our leaders - and in all of your prayers look within your own heart to see what areas the division has exposed for repentance and healing.

God Bless Us All.
