Who or WHAT in your life is binding you to your past and preventing you from moving ahead? Those circumstances, friends, failures, voices of shame or memories that we are so bound to as human beings. That's "natural" and real stuff friends. But God wants us to live in the Dimension of a Spiritual life my friends. And that's super-natural. Divine Living! When we turn, when we leave our past behind, (no you don't just ignore it!) It's a daily choice to not dig in the pile of pain, and often-immature places of not knowing how to handle certain situations.
A Releasing of Past Things
...Then God can speak to us about our future. Is it easy? No! Is it necessary? Yes!
You need to release yourself from all that keeps you tormented and tied to your past. And, getting SAFE help or having a listening ear to walk with you is a GOOD thing!
- If you have to change friends - change friends.
- If you've got to relocate - relocate.
- If you've got to "not pick up the phone" - Don't pick up the phone!
Nothing is more important than leaving your past behind and moving on into the future. We must hear the Sound of God's Voice and then act! Moving forward into what He is calling out for us to do!
Those whose hearts are right with God keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger. Job 17:9
I know! I knooooooooow! We all have a need to belong. To feel whole. To be a part of something bigger then ourselves.
How can we change past negative behavior patterns and instead, progress or move forward spiritually?
First Things First!
Transformation has to come from within us! We have to find a new way of looking at our lives, relationships, and our past.
Too often we have tied ourselves to our past and can't seem to think any other way then we've always thought! (It's REAL and it takes time to walk out of things!! Be kind to others and to yourself when this is happening.)
No one else can change you - You are the only one who can change you.
My Friend, Here are some helpful hints.

Remove yourself from your past.

Break the pattern!

First, love God with all your heart, soul, and mind

Then learn to love yourself. Patterns we have seen in our lives have often been unhealthy so we need to create new patterns.
Then, start with a little self-care. Can you love who God has created....YOU?
Can you love things God created in you?
You may feel so worthless and so ashamed. It doesn't overwhelm God. There is nothing that the blood of Jesus cannot wash completely clean! It doesn't matter where you've been or how you feel! He understands it all.
God will give purpose to all of the years that have question marks.
He Releases and Restores
Whatever holds you to your past - God wants to set you free. Don't let your past interfere with your future.
It's possible to live and die without taking full possession of what God has promised you! God does not consult your past to determine your future. "Behold all things have become new" in Christ Jesus!
God spoke to Abraham, after he cut himself off from Lot. Lot is an example for us of someone who tied Abraham to his past.
Satan would love to have us stuck in our past - in the failures, in the toxic relationships, in the pain and disappointment - so that we can't even see or hope for our future!
He calls you from where He is taking you. Not from where you've been.
Romans 12:2 "Do not let your life be shaped by this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
In other words, God is standing there in your future, beckoning you to "come on over" to what He has prepared for you. He is longing to show you why He made you and what significant purpose He has designed for your life.
Won't you give Him a chance? You need to release your past and step into the new life God has for you! It may be hard - but oh, it is so worth it!
As long as there is disobedience - people tying you to your past - God cannot speak to you about your future. Get rid of "Lot" - quit tying yourself to your past. Don't let your past define your future!
Remove Every Distraction!
Whenever God gets ready to bring out of you what He's put into you - the devil will bring distractions. The distractions can be people, circumstances, money, activities or anything that draws you from seeking God!
You may have had a dream to do something with your life - something that counts for God, and every time you get close to fulfilling that dream, something happens to distract you! That is NOT God! It is a sign that God is trying to bring out of you all the dreams He has put into your life and Satan is upset!
Don't break your FOCUS. Distraction destroys purpose. God didn't create you to live a distracted life. God created you to live a Jesus-infused life.
I obtain understanding from your precepts O Lord! I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp for my feet, and a light for my pathway. Psalm 119:104-105
Let's Pray Together Right Now!
Lord, I'm weary. My energy is sagging, and my motivation is lagging. And I am so in need of you. I need your strength and your fresh touch to get back on track again.
Your Word says the joy of the Lord is my strength. If that's true, then I need your joy to replace all the bone-tired parts of my mind, body, and soul.
The pressures of life sometimes push me into a corner, rendering me helpless to move forward. A hundred voices call my name, and I feel paralyzed at times to answer, not knowing where to turn. Lord, help me not to quit, to keep running the race faithfully, and to find strength in that safe, secret place of yours, under the shadow of the Almighty.
I need your strength to say no when I'm tempted to surrender to harmful things, or when selfishness clings to my thoughts and won't let go. I need your strength to say yes, when cowardice and fear nudge me to deny the convictions of my heart. I need your strength to reach out in love to those both close to me and all around me. When don't I need your strength, God?
You are my rock, and I run to you today, believing that you will lift up my heavy arms, that you will fuel me for the tasks you've given me, and that your joy will completely consume the weakness of my life and make me strong again. I don't want to stay grounded, crippled by limitations and failed attempts. I'm tired of feeble efforts.
Lord, I want to mount up with wings like an eagle and not just fly. I want to soar and hear the sound of the forward call of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
