Do you ever wake up and think...was that dream from God? Or did I just eat something weird last night? Dreams are one of the many ways that God chooses to speak to us and you can learn to develop your own dream language.

First, you will need to look to Scripture. Whenever we are seeking to understand God's voice in our lives, we must first turn to His Word, which never changes and has no error. What an amazing comfort that we can trust the Bible—God's love letter to us.

According to Psalm 119:105 (NASB), His Word is, "A lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Search the Scripture as you ask God for the interpretation of your dream.

Next, you must rely on the Holy Spirit. As believers, we have constant access to the Holy Spirit. He is our comforter and guide, so it is natural that we would have conversations with Him about everything, including our dreams. John 14:26 reminds us, "The Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you." Ask Him what He wants to show you through the dream and write down what He says to you.

Scripture and Spirit are two keys to discovering your God-given dream language. You can also use Bible resources, such as concordances and Bible dictionaries, if you need assistance in looking up symbols, themes or verses in your dreams.

In addition, here are two things NOT to do in regard to your spiritual dreams.

1. Do not Google every symbol in your dream. (Kind of like how you shouldn't check WebMD for possible diagnoses of your health-related symptoms unless you want to be freaked out!) People from all walks of life have written about dreams and many of those authors don't have a biblical foundation. Even amongst Christian perspectives, symbols can have a wide variety of meanings. The best thing to do is steer clear of internet searches and stick to Scripture and the Spirit to discover the way God speaks to you through dreams.

2. Do not get caught up too much in the details. Oftentimes there is a main theme or message in the dream. Try to hone in on that rather than getting distracted by the details.

As you keep track of your dreams, you will start to see patterns. That is God's unique way of speaking just to you. What an amazing gift!
