A Wrong Repentance by Pam Clark

By Pam Clark
I got an unusual word from the Lord today. Every day I ask to hear from Him, and especially to share with others, as a work of my ministry to Him. First I hear for me, and then it is to others. But I have never had a word like this one, and I've been at this a while. Today I heard the Lord say that people are repenting to the wrong thing! They are willing to repent and change, but they are going back to a past or person or situation that will not remedy. I have had situations over my own life where I thought, "This really could go better." When you feel that way, you know you need to get closer to God again. I pray and I go back to the times and mindsets where I felt His pleasure. I've been reading the OT prophet books lately and I listen for His quickening. We have to learn truth in the different ways He presents it.

Today in my readings there was a strong word of "Repent! Repent!" in the passages I was reading. So I asked the Lord, what do we need to repent for? And I know that it could be any number of things, especially in the times we live in.

But He surprised me when He said, "People are 'repenting' to the wrong things! They will go back in time but to a particular place or person or mindset, but that was not Me!"

Baffled, I pressed in more and He said, "Remember when a minister prayed for you and said they would be your covering and you did not get a full witness to that? You knew there were things that you two did not see the same, even though you loved and respected the minister."

And I remembered but did not think a lot about it because I knew we were both seeking the Lord and wanting His good for all of us. We were socially friendly and we liked to pray for God's good in the land. But the Lord said, "I am not calling you to 'an order' of 'doing church,' but to a way of walking with Me! I am not just calling you, but all My people to walk HEARING ME!"

Suddenly I got the message. There are many pleasant "styles" of doing church. And they can be a blessing to many people. Some people will hear in those styles! But the Lord said that the point is that they HEAR. It's not just the prophets that hear, He wants EVERYONE to hear in their spirit from Him.

Some mock and belittle others when they don't "hear" like 'they' do. Some are arrogant because they believe that they have "advanced" in the Lord and others are "lesser" because they are not "in the know" as they are. Some, too many He said, follow after people! They will admire someone and without realizing it make an idol of them. That person becomes "the way" and not the Lord Jesus!

Hear and Know

The Lord said to me, "I want My people to HEAR! I want them to know ME, not all these other people and 'ways' of doing things. I am in their HUMAN experience and it is set up for interaction with Me!" I was floored because I had never heard a message like that from Him before, but it did make sense. I really had to go into myself to see if I was receiving this right.

I got the affirmation but still feel like I am digging into it. Prayer is conversation with God. The Bible is a spiritual book and our souls interact with it when we read it (and speak it). Some do approach it in a scholarly fashion only.

But it's more than that and not that easy to understand just off the cuff; we have to pray and dig into it. We also continue to learn and grow, but He is not raising up "eggheads" whose brains are so big and advanced that it dwarfs their bodies and the people around them.

He is a personal human experience and His sheep know His Voice! He speaks in many different ways, and He has many different callings and just plain things that people enjoy doing, especially for other people. It is a ministry. But when they follow other people instead of making Him center in their lives, they are missing it. They aren't praying as much as they are comparing themselves one with another!

Christians, believers, are meant to be a mystery people. They are meant to be different, not just because of their culture but because they have a relationship with Him that goes beyond just natural living. Over the centuries, this relationship has developed and many wonderful advances have been made because of it!

When we read history, we need to be sensitive even on how we hear that! What spirit, what voice is dictating the story to us, because even that translates into a mindset. If it is not of Him, then who is it? A devil, or an idol? A lot of knowledge will fade away, but not His Voice!

"My sheep HEAR My Voice," He says. We can repent for a variety of things but if it doesn't take us back and closer to Him, and if our relationship with Him is not in a way that is maturing us IN the Spirit, then our repentance could be in vain!

Don't repent to dead works; that will not save you! You can be very religious about a number of things, but that will not solve your problems. Yes, you FEEL like you take a heart risk when you trust sensitive issues to Him, but that is also where you learn to see HIM move in your life and be Lord and Caregiver!

Love welcomes others into His Presence, even if they have to have patience and do charitable deeds for them. This is where the ministry of the everyday believer comes in, the ones He died to reach. He says, "You are My witnesses, to the whole uttermost parts of the world!"

Proverbs 3:5-8

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
8 It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.
