JOHN PAUL JACKSON: "User Friendly Prophecy" by Larry Randolph "Captures the Glory and the 'Gory'"

In a day when spiritual hyperbole often clouds and distorts the precious gifts given to the Church, it is good to see a book come along that accurately portrays the necessity of the prophetic gift. Larry has captured the power and simplicity, the elegance and crudeness, the Glory and the "gory" of the maturity process that turns the weak into the mighty through the grace of Jesus Christ. - John Paul Jackson, Founder of Streams Ministries International

From the Forward of "User Friendly Prophecy":I find it quite ironic that I would be writing a forward to a book on the subject of prophecy. Ironic because until I met Larry Randolph, I was quite negative regarding the issue of prophecy. Or, it would be better to say I was quite negative in my view of "prophets." The only prophetic persons I knew were eccentric; one of them gave prophecies in parables and symbols, which were hard to understand.

I had been very skeptical of the prophetic emphasis in Kansas City in the late 1980s. I had been in the home of one of the prophetic personalities of the Kansas City Fellowship. In all honesty, part of my negative appraisal was the apparent excitement many people had regarding the prophetic. I was beginning to think that most people believed God had moved to Kansas City. My church was only about five hours away on the other side of Missouri. I was an insecure pastor who was threatened by the success and visibility of the church in Kansas City. I admit that I didn't really know Mike Bickle, but he is now one of my friends whom I have a great respect for and who is one of my important prayer partners.

So how did meeting Larry Randolph change my view of prophecy? It happened this way. John Arnott told me he wanted to introduce the prophetic into the meetings in Toronto where I was preaching at what was then called the Toronto Airport Vineyard Christian Fellowship, now Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship. I told him I didn't really want to, but I was in the role of the evangelist and would respect his decision. John invited Larry Randolph to come and minister since John's staff person, Marc Dupont, who was gifted prophetically, was out of the country at the time in Scandinavia.

We went to pick Larry up, and when I met him, I was initially very nervous about this prophetic person. How weird would he be? I found Larry to be very friendly and fun to be with. We talked some in the car on the way to the meeting. During the meeting I was praying for a pastor's wife who was having trouble breaking through into the Presence of God. I worked with her for a while, but to no avail. Then Larry stepped up by me and politely asked, "Would you care if I prayed for her? Perhaps God will give me some insight." I was frustrated and glad to have Larry take over since I was getting nowhere. It was like praying for a wall.

I watched as Larry asked the woman three questions. It was obvious that he knew more than he was sharing. In a brief period of time, the woman was in tears - no longer was it like praying for a brick wall. I was amazed at how natural Larry ministered, how gentle, how caring, how powerful was the effect. I was so impressed that I asked Larry to pray for me that I, too, might begin to prophesy over people like Larry had done. Larry prayed for me, and I still desire more anointing in the area of prophecy.

I was so impressed that I have had Larry join others to be one of the principal speakers at the last three prophetic conferences in my city, St. Louis. His times of sharing have been some of the most popular teachings given during these last three prophetic conferences. I think so much of Larry that I asked him to join my staff, but to no avail. God would not release him from his call to southern California. I consider him a dear friend and a man of integrity - a very nonreligious, yet spiritual person whom God raised up from the cotton fields of Arkansas and is using to touch His Church in this time. It is an honor to introduce Larry Randolph to you.
