Unsearchable Riches of Christ by Todd Bentley

By Todd Bentley
For two days I've been thinking about this verse, or rather this phrase by Paul: "Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8 KJV). The unsearchable, unending, boundless, and fathomless riches of Christ. This is truly the beauty of mystery. I love the word "mystery," it means secret. It implies that we get the honor to search the heart of God for revelation. This verse and these thoughts are truly making me hunger for more. "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter" (Proverbs 25:2 KJV).

Of course, this mystery of the endless treasures of who and what we are refer to the mystery of the gospel. Imagine the full wealth and knowledge of the cross. Grace will never end. It makes me hunger and long to know more. Who can fully comprehend that He is mindful of us? We are born again (regenerated) and blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Think about the glory of the resurrection, walking with God and miracles. These are some of the great mysteries of the gospel, and there are many more.

You could study for all of eternity on the beauty, mystery, power, mercy, and majesty of the cross and it would not be enough! It is unsearchable! At the same time, we have the mind of Christ. What is even more amazing is that God wants to share His mysteries, even secrets of the universe, with us. This is the purpose of intimacy and fellowship with His Spirit. We have the Spirit of wisdom and revelation dwelling inside of us to reveal the truths of the gospel! Wow!!

"Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret unto His servants the prophets" (Amos 3:7 NKJV).

Mysteries

One of the greatest mysteries is "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (see Colossians 1:27).

Another great mystery revealed in Christ and the Father are "hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (see Colossians 2:3).

I love this thought about the mystery of godliness or to be God-in likeness. "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles" (see I Timothy 3:16). I love the true key to godliness-it is God manifested in our flesh. When we surrender fully to the Holy Spirit, He will manifest Jesus in us and we will have His likeness (God-liness).

"This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 3:6 NIV).

I think the greatest gift of the Holy Spirit is found in this promise in the gospel of Matthew: "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them" (Matthew 13:11 NIV).That means we can know the "mystery of His will" (see Ephesians 1:9,11). We make the mystery of His kingdom known. We can also know and search out the mystery of the resurrection (see I Corinthians 15:51). There is a beauty in searching and discovering the unsearchable riches of Christ.

In all of our preaching the glorious mysteries and riches of Christ, let us remember the glory of the cross summed up in the words of the prince of preachers himself, Charles Spurgeon: "The true minister is he who can preach Christ. Let him preach anything else in the world, he has not proved his calling, but if he shall preach Jesus and the resurrection, he is in the apostolic succession. If Christ crucified is the great delight of his soul, the very marrow of his teaching, the fatness of his ministry, he has proved his calling as an ambassador of Christ."
