Wow! Two Trees Communicating by Dr. Kluane Spake

By Kluane Spake
"But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God" (Psalm 52:8). A few years ago, my husband and I went for a walk in the woods behind our house and saw these two beautiful trees linked together and it looked like there was a ring that joined them together at the top. Maybe you can also see the ring between them? They appeared to be a couple! We talked about how stately those two trees soared upward together -- and afterward we often looked at our photo. Scripture tells us that the magnificence of the Lord is detailed in nature..."And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord" (Ez. 17:24).

They appeared to be a couple! We talked about how stately those two trees soared upward together -- and afterward we often looked at our photo.

Scripture tells us that the magnificence of the Lord is detailed in nature..."And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord" (Ez. 17:24).

Science now provides compelling evidence of what we have not known before -- that all the trees in the forest are connected by fungi and ACT AS ONE. They communicate to each other via pheromones and compounds that move through the bridges of their root system – exchanging data about water, danger, seasons, fruit bearing, and growth. This root system seems to be redistributing carbohydrates from tree to tree as needed!

These trees show us that the universe is more complex than we ever imagined! From this, we can understand more about how life is supposed to become an integrated whole rather than separate parts. We see how distribution among us benefits everyone.

Trees are life-forms that show us the value of "koinonia" – the strength of growing together in unity, fellowship, and communion° We are each designed to be part of the greater whole.

Can we learn from the trees? What has separated us in individualism without oneness prevents our optimum survival.

May we have our hearts opened to recognize the wisdom of being "part" of the Body of Christ -- and also understanding the value of greater exchange and commitment in marriage.

Last week, we found out that the two trees had died together in a storm. To me, they demonstrate a life well lived -- in harmony and co-laboring! They laid peacefully still entwined. A perfect passing into a new season!

He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
Proverbs 1:3
